Your patient recently had a viral infection and now she cannot move the muscles on the right side of her face. In addition, she is experiencing a loss of taste and dry mouth and she cannot close her right eye. Which cranial nerves have been affected by the viral infection?

With the given symptoms, the patient's cranial nerve (VII) or the facial nerve seems to be affected by the viral infection or also known as Bell's Palsy. Damage to this area paralyzes that side of the face that causes the inability to move the eye of the side affected. It may also result in dryness in mouth and lose of taste.
