    • Occipitofrontalis (Frontal belly)

ACTION: Draws scalp anteriorly, raises eyebrows, and wrinkles skin of forehead horizontally

    • Orbicularis oculi 

ACTION: Closes eye

    • Orbicularis oris 

ACTION: Closes and protrudes lips; compresses lips against teeth; and shapes lips during speech

    • Buccinator

ACTION: Presses cheeks against teeth and lips; draws corner of mouth laterally; and assists in mastication

    • Platysma

ACTION: Draws outer part of lower lip inferiorly and posteriorly; depresses mandible

  • Mechanism 

Bell's palsy is an abrupt, unilateral, peripheral facial nerve paralysis with no known etiology. The suspected etiology could be due to cold, trauma, surgical procedure, tumors, etc. (Nurcahyani, 2017).

  •  Other symptoms
    • Loss of sense of taste

    • Teariness or dryness of the eye

    • Pain in the ear

    • Drooling
    • Absence of forehead wrinkling

    • Facial weakness

    • Widening of the opening bet. the eyelids
