MUSCLE NAME: Platysma

ORIGIN: Chest fascia / subcutaneous tissue surrounding clavicle

INSERTION: Base of mandible, cheeks, and lower lip, and orbicularis oris muscle

ACTION: Depression of mandible; tenses skin of neck

MUSCLE NAME: Mentalis

ORIGIN: Mandible incisive fossa

INSERTION: Chin skin 

ACTION: Protrusion of lower lip; elevation of chin skin

MUSCLE NAME: Orbicularis oris

ORIGIN: Maxilla and mandible medial aspect; and the modiolus

INSERTION: Skin at corners of mouth

ACTION: Closes lips, forms kissing gesture, puckers lips

ORIGIN: Supraorbital ridge, medial end

INSERTION: Skin of forehead near eyebrow

ACTION: Brings eyebrow together, creating vertical wrinkles on nose bridge
