ACTIVITY 5

This is Hidilyn Diaz. She won the Philippines’ first ever Olympic gold medal in the clean and jerk weightlifting category for the 55-kg weight division during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Give 5 examples of muscles with isotonic contractions and 5 examples of muscles with isometric contractions during the activity in the gif below.

ISOTONIC CONTRACTIONS - the tension (force of contraction) developed in the muscle remains almost constant while the muscle changes its length. It can can be concentric isotonic contraction or eccentric isotic contraction.

  1. Hamstrings (concentric)

  2. Rectus femoris (eccentric)

  3. Gluteus maximus (concentric)

  4. Adductor magnus (concentric)

  5. Quadriceps femoris (eccentric)

ISOMETRIC CONTRACTIONS - the tension generated is not enough to exceed the resistance of the object to be moved, and the muscle does not change its length.

  1. Rectus abdominis

  2. Trapezius

  3. Deltoids

  4. External obliques

  5. Latissimus dorsi
