origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur
insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
action: Extend leg at knee joint
how to locate: make an imaginary box on the upper leg. Find the groin. One hand’s width below the groin becomes the upper border of the box
Find the top of knee. One hand’s width above the top of the knee becomes the lower border of the box. The side borders will be from the mid anterior thigh to the mid lateral thigh. The middle of the borders will be the injection site.

targeted muscle: deltoid
origin: Acromial extremity of clavicle (anterior fibers), acromion of scapula (lateral fibers), and spine of scapula (posterior fibers)
insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
action: Lateral fibers abduct arm at shoulder joint; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm at shoulder joint; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm at shoulder joint
how to locate: to locate the middle of the deltoid, lay three fingers across the deltoid and below the acromion process
