1. PLATYSMA
Origin: In the skin and fascia of the infraclavicular and supraclavicular regions
Insertion: Base of the mandible, skin of the cheek and lower lip, angle of the mouth
Action: Tenses the skin of the neck and draws the corner of the lips downward
2. MENTALIS
Origin: Anterior region of the mandible
Insertion: Skin of the chin
Action: Causes protrusion of the lower lip and produces wrinkles on the skin of the chin.
3. ORBICULARIS ORIS
Origin: Medial portion of the maxilla and mandible
Insertion: Its insertion site is along the skin around the lips
Action: Allows mouth to close and lips to pucker or pout
4. CORRUGATOR SUPERCILII
Origin: Found in the medial end of the supraorbital ridge
Insertion: The skin located in the forehead above the eyebrows
Action: Shields eyes from bright light, allows forehead to show signs of wrinkling, and draws eyebrows towards each other.
5. ORBICULARIS OCULI
Origin: Nasal region of the frontal bone, frontal process of the maxilla, medial palpebral ligament, and lacrimal crest and bone.
Insertion: Skin surrounding the circumference of the orbit, temporal aspect of the orbit, and towards the cheek
Action: Closes the eyes, Allows eyes to blink, Controls tear pump mechanism
6. OCCIPITOFRONTALIS
Origin: Occipital bone and temporal bone
Insertion: Epicranial aponeurosis and facial muscles surrounding the eyes
Action: Allows the eyebrows to raise and foreheads to wrinkle
