Please follow: MUSCLE - ACTION - INNERVATION
-
supinator muscle - Proximal radioulnar joint: Forearm supination - Posterior interosseous nerve (C7, C8)
pronator teres - Pronation of forearm at the proximal radioulnar joint while it can also serve as a flexion for the forearm at the elbow joint - Median nerve (C6, C7)
pronator quadratus muscles - Proximal radioulnar joint; Pronation of the forearm - Median nerve (anterior interosseous nerve, C7, C8)
-
Pectoralis Major - Shoulder joint: Arm adduction, Arm internal rotation, Arm flexion (clavicular head), arm extension (sternocostal head); Scapulothoracic joint: Draws scapula anteroinferiorly - Lateral and medial pectoral nerves (C5-T1)
Subscapularis - Shoulder joint: Arm internal rotation; Furthermore, it stabilizes the humeral head in the glenoid cavity - Upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5 - C6)
Latissimus Dorsi - produces movements in the shoulder by pulling the scapula’s inferior angle in various directions - Thoracodorsal nerve (C6-C8)
-
Quadriceps - extend/straightens the knee - Femoral nerve (L2-L4)
hip flexor muscles (iliopsoas) - assists in external rotation of femur - Iliacus: femoral nerve (L2-L4); Psoas major: anterior rami of spinal nerves (L1-L3)
psoas major - Hip joint: Flexion of the thigh/trunk, lateral rotation of the thigh - Anterior rami of spinal nerves L1-L3
-
External Oblique muscles - flexes the trunk - Motor: Intercostal nerves (T7- T11), Subcostal nerve (T12) Sensory: Iliohypogastric nerve (L1)
rectus abdominis - Flexion of the trunk (flexion of thoracic and lumber spine) - Intercostal nerves (T7-T11), subcostal nerve (T12)
hip flexor muscles (iliopsoas) - assists in external rotation of femur - Iliacus: femoral nerve (L2-L4); Psoas major: anterior rami of spinal nerves (L1-L3)
-
Soleus - plantar flexion of the foot at the ankle - Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Gastrocnemius - pulls the heel up, thus extending the foot downward - Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
tibialis anterior - foot dorsiflexion; subtalar joint: foot inversion - Deep fibular nerve (L4, L5)
-
Diaphragm - contracts and flattens when inhaled, while relaxes when exhaled - Phrenic nerves (C3-C5) (sensory innervation of peripheries via 6th-11th intercostal nerves)
Rib cage - protects the organs found in the thoracic cavity - nterior rami of spinal nerves T1-T11
rectus abdominis - Flexion of the trunk (flexion of thoracic and lumber spine) - Intercostal nerves (T7-T11), subcostal nerve (T12)
