ACTIVITY 2
Turning a door knob
a. Extensor carpi ulnaris
Action: wrist joint: hand extension and adduction
Innervation: posterior interosseous nerve (C7 and C8)
b. Brachioradialis
Action: flexes the forearm at the elbow
Innervation: innervated by the radial nerve
c. Supinator
Action: rotates the radius laterally at the proximal radioulnar joint
Innervation: innervated by the posterior interosseous nerve (C7, C8)
Throwing a baseball overhead
a. Deltoid
Action: extends and laterally rotates arm, flexes and internally rotates arm, abducts arm, and extends and laterally rotates arm
Innervation: innervated by axillary nerve (C5, C6)
B. Teres minor
Action: arm external rotation, arm adduction
Innervation: axillary nerve (C5 & C6)
c. Latissimus Dorsi
Action: pulls the inferior angle of the scapula in various directions, causing shoulder joint motions, adducts the arm at the shoulder
Innervation: the thoracodorsal (long subscapular) nerve is innervated by the sixth, seventh, and eighth cervical nerves.
Kicking a ball
A.Gluteus Maximus
Action: extension, external rotation, abduction and adduction of the thigh
Innervation: innervated by the inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
B. Quadriceps
Action: extend/straighten the knee
Innervation: innervated by femoral nerve (L2-L4)
C. Rectus femoris
Action: Extend leg at knee joint; flexes thigh at hip joint
Innervation: Femoral nerve
Doing sit-ups
a. Rectus Abdominis
Action: flexes the spinal column, particularly the lumbar region, and compresses the belly to help in feces, urination, forced exhalation, and birthing.
Innervation: thoracic spinal nerves (T7-T12)
b. External Obliques
Action: trunk ipsilateral lateral flexion and trunk contralateral rotation
Innervation: the iliohypogastric nerve and thoracic spinal nerves T7-T12
c. Transverse Abdominis
Action: keep internal abdominal pressure constant
Innervation: innervated by the lower intercostal nerves (thoracoabdominal, nerve roots T7-T11)
Walking
A.Gluteus minimus
Action: abducts thigh at hip joint and medially rotates thigh
Innervation: Superior gluteal nerve
b. Soleus
Action: plantar flexion of the foot at the ankle
Innervation: tibial nerve
c. Quadriceps
Action: straighten or extend the knee
Innervation: innervated by femoral nerve (L2-L4)
Breathing
A. Rectus Abdominis
Action: pushes the ribs down during vigorous expiration, trunk flexion, and abdominal viscera compression
Innervation: intercostal nerves (T7-T11), subcostal nerve (T12)
B. Intercostal Muscles
Action:pull the rib cage down and force air out of the lungs
Innervation: thoracic spinal nerves (T2-T12)
C. Diaphragm
Action: flatten and increases vertical dimension of thoracic cavity, resulting in inhalation
Innervation: innervated by phrenic nerves (C3-C5)
