When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does "gene expression" mean in relation to protein synthesis?
The human body is made up of about 200 cell types. Each cell type carries different genes with different functions. Once a gene is expressed, the protein product of that gene is usually made. So basically, expressing a specific gene allows protein synthesis of the same gene.
