Anatomy as well as physiology have several subspecialties. Can you identify these subspecialties and explain what they specifically study?
Mysteries abound when people seek for answers. It creates a wonderstruck that builds the framework for the valor of knowing.Everyday, humans search for proof of how they were assembled. Most of them question their existence and doubt if the theories of the highly-regarded scientists were correct; not realizing that everything they have been searching for—everything that they’ll ever have to know, is within them. The secrets that the universe comprises are deeply engraved within the depths of an organism’s bewildering anatomy.
From the outside, the human body seems to be a simple figure; but when it casts a spell, it holds one in its net of wonder. Billions of microscopic parts and life-sized portions, flaunting certain capacities, are working together to carry out the processes that sustain life. Under this prism, innumerable subspecialities are flung into the anatomy and physiology of the vast container of the soul:
-
Embryology - scrutinizes the evolution of the gametes into embryos in the first 8 weeks after fertilization.
-
Development Biology - concerned with the mechanisms that encapsulate the growth and development of organisms.
-
Cell Biology - encompasses the evaluation of the composition and functions of cells inside the body.
-
Surface Anatomy - probes into the superficial features of the human body to decipher its internal structure.
-
Gross Anatomy - investigates the anatomical structures that are visible to the naked eye.
-
Systemic Anatomy - a holistic approach to examining the architecture of the different organ systems.
-
Neurophysiology - discipline circumscribed to the assessment of the assets of the nervous system, particularly the nerve cells.
-
Endocrinology - covers hormones in action and their ability to govern bodily functions.
-
Cardiovascular Physiology - explains the intricate tandem of the heart and the blood vessels’ physiology.
-
Immunology - focus on the recognition of particles and the adaptability of organisms to combat susceptibility against hostile environments and foreign substances.
-
Renal Physiology - explores the physiology of the workhorses of the urinary system, the kidneys.
-
Pathophysiology - convergence of anomalies in the body which results in the emergence of diseases.
Can you give your own example on how a structure of a body part is related to its function?
Bodies of living creatures are like a toolbox; no single organ can perform the duties alone, but when used collectively, they can bust all the odds. Combination of indefatigable forces create a factory of mechanisms which produce mortality in the sphere of life. At the rear of its programmability, the brain commands every process seen in action inside the body. Similar to a controller, the brain has three main parts which contribute to the overall delivery of magnificence to embody the mere essence of regulation namely cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem. Higher cognitive functions are all part of the cerebrum’s power. Divided into four, it serves a myriad of other functions accompanied by the frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal lobes. Blueprint of frontal lobe illustrates that it was designed to instigate memory, emotions, consciousness, problem-solving, interpersonal communication, and motor skills. Flung into the cerebrum as well, the parietal lobe’s vitalness springs in sensory perception and integration such as hearing, smelling, touching, tasting, and seeing. On the other end of the spectrum, the occipital lobe holds an innate reserve of unimaginable strength in the visual perception of an organism such as color, form, and motion. Whereas, the temporal lobe is primarily responsible for the interpretation of sound and comprehension of language. As for the cerebellum, its responsibility lies in the maintenance of balance through the adjustment of posture, while on the contrary, the brain stem supervises a variety of recurring bodily processes. Thus, the mind is unequivocally a formidable instrument for sifting through seemingly unrelated elements and establishing a link with a specific subject at hand.
