1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.
- The main difference between somatic and reproductive cell division is that somatic cells undergo mitosis, aiding the formation of new cells. These lead to the creation of internal organs. On the other hand, reproductive cells (or gametes) are used for the creation of a new organism and usually undergo the process of meiosis.
2. What is the significance of interphase?
- Interphase is the process wherein the cell is prepared for cell division. This is when nutrients and proteins are gathered for the cell to healthily grow, and replicate its DNA. One slight mishap within the cell could cause incorrect coding of DNA and an unsuccessful cell division.
