Today I was able to glean life lessons from our own integumentary system. The integumentary system taught me about moderation and prudence. I learned this through the process of pigmentation. This is because of the fact that sometimes, we need to subject our skin to some sunlight. After all, melanin also serves some protective functions (within limits). Also, exposure to small amounts of UV light is actually necessary for the skin to start the synthesis of vitamin D. However, we must always remember that there is beauty in moderation. We must not always expose ourselves to UV rays because, instead of giving us protection or vitamin D, this can cause us skin cancer. In the same way, we must learn to find moderation in our everyday lives. Sometimes we will need to subject ourselves to some hardship in order to become stronger and to create new experiences that will help us grow. However, we must also remember to be gentle to ourselves and rest because too much is also bad. Thus, we must be prudent in our actions in order to always find balance in life.
