1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.
Somatic cell division is a process where two genetically identical cells with the same number and kind of chromosomes as the original are produced. This process is important as cells that undergo this division replace dead or injured cells and add new ones during tissue growth. On the other hand, reproductive cell division is a process where gametes (egg and sperm cells) are produced. This is also an important process because it allows the survival of the specie as the genetic material is passed to an organism’s offspring.
2. What is the significance of interphase?
Interphase is important in cell division as it has a high metabolic activity; during this time, cells grow and are replicated and prepared for cell division.
