Cell Division

Bien Troy B. Torres

Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.

SOMATIC CELL DIVISION - Somatic cell division is what you call Mitosis. It undergoes Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase processes that produces two diploid daughter cells that are identical to each other. It is essential because it is responsible for creating new cells and replacing the old ones.

REPRODUCTIVE CELL DIVISION - Reproductive cell division includes Meiosis 1 & Meiosis 2. It typically reproduces four haploid daughter cells that are not identical to each other. It is important as it provides the sex cells needed for reproduction.

What is the significance of interphase?

It is a crucial step for a cell as this is where the cell can grow, replicate its DNA, and make final preparations for the mitosis.
