According to the Body Functions & Life Process | SEER Training (2022), the basic life processes include: (1) organization - every single part of the body has its own purpose. Just like cell differentiation, each cell has a responsibility (no cell is less important) to perform in order to maintain a healthy body. (2) metabolism - this is the chemical reactions occurring in the body. An example could be catabolism which means complex substances are then formed to a simple one hence, energy is released. (3) responsiveness - here is the response of stimulus to the environment. When something hot penetrates our skin, our stimulus will respond to its heat and turn it into pain. (4) movements - every second movement is happening in our body. The fact that I am able to type these words can be an example of movement. Diaphragm expanding every breath can also be an example. (5) reproduction - is the formation of new cells. Menstruation is an example. In addition to this, humans possess additional requirements which are: (6) growth - increase in size and individual cells. As we grow overtime, our cells grow with us which is why change in height occurs. (7) Differentiation - unspecialized cells turn into adult cells which are then given a certain function in the body. Tissues and organs are also developing in differentiation, not just cells. (8) Respiration occurs when oxygen is inhaled and carbon dioxide is exhaled. In this process, diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide is present. (9) Digestion is the breaking down of food and its molecules are converted to energy which will be transported to the different parts of the body. (10) excretion - removal of waste and toxins in the body. May be done through defecating.
