What is your opinion about the practice of family planning? Are you for it or against it? Are you in favor of the Reproductive Health Law and its provisions? Elaborate your answer.

Personally, I support the Reproductive Health Law but with reservations. I support it in a sense since it includes provisions that guarantee universal access to medically-safe, effective, legal, affordable, and quality reproductive health care services, methods, devices, and supplies. It also respects individuals and families preferences in terms of family planning methods. It has provisions on giving priority to poor beneficiaries and marginalized people. However, we encounter problems of abortion which we know that is illegal in the Philippines. In reality, there are still unauthorized abortions in our country and I believe that one way on how we can lessen the instance of resulting to abortion is mitigating the programs of DOH such as patient education and letting them know that different family planning methods are readily available in health centers. They should be educated and be corrected about their misconceptions about family planning methods since this is one of the barriers that create a gap between the patient and quality care. They should also be aware of the possible advantages of engaging in family planning such as financial capacity, physical, and mental readiness. These are some of the ways that we can do in response to this problem since the legalization of abortion in the Philippines is still in discourse and we cannot stop the reality that there will still unauthorized abortion at present.
