Factors affecting maternal mortality rate in the Philippines

-          Lack of access to reproductive health services including family planning

-          Inaccessibility and lack of healthcare personnel

-          Inadequate distribution of healthcare

-          Presence of physician, nurse or midwife who has had formal training during labor

-          Childbearing at a young age

-          Low level of contraceptive use

-          Unplanned/ unwanted pregnancies leading to abortion

Top 3 causes of Maternal Mortality in the Philippines

-          Complications (E.g. Infection or cardiac problem) related to pregnancy occurring in the course of labor, delivery, and puerperium

-          Hypertension complicating pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium

-          Postpartum hemorrhage
