1. What do you think are the reasons for the high unmet need for FP in the Philippines?
I think the main reason for the high unmet need for family planning in the country is that in spite of the fact that the RH Law has been around for some time, family planning measures and services are still not easily and universally accessible. Another possible reason is that although many couples have the desire to use family planning, they are not able to contraceptives because they find it too expensive. One more reason I could think of is the health concerns that couples have regarding contraception and their inability to consult a professional regarding these concerns.
2. What are ways you can suggest to increase the practice of FP in the country? Give at least 1-2 suggestions.
I believe that one reliable way to increase family planning practice in the country would be to improve the delivery of reproductive health education in schools. In addition to simply teaching how reproduction works, misconceptions about sex should be addressed. The use of contraceptives should also be encouraged. Additionally, the government could also allot more budget to the Department of Health’s Family Planning Program. This way, the unmet need for family planning in the country could be addressed by making contraceptives be more easily accessible and even more affordable.
