What is your opinion about the practice of family planning? Are you for it or against it?
I am absolutely in favor of practicing family planning for this does not only allow individuals and/or couples to protect themselves (from sexually-transmitted infections) but also positively affects the family’s well being in so many significant ways. Family planning has a lot of advantages. One of these is that planned pregnancies improve health outcomes for the baby and result in fewer medical issues for the mother. Likewise, it reduces the number of unintended pregnancies hence removing the option for unsafe abortion leading to a decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates. On the other hand, family planning isn’t just beneficial in reproductive health outcomes but can also help a couple in avoiding social and financial issues that can arise in the future. In other words, a couple that is involved in family planning experiences a sense of security allowing them to raise a family that they can properly provide and care for. Furthermore, having enough knowledge about family planning guides individuals and couples in making informed choices and sound life decisions.
Are you in favor of the Reproductive Health Law and its provisions? Elaborate your answer.
I am in favor of the Reproductive Health Law. RA 10354 or The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 is a breakthrough legislation that guarantees universal and free access to almost all modern contraceptives at government health centers for all citizens, including impoverished communities. This then addresses the current poverty which is closely associated with the population problem of the country. Underprivileged women and/or families lack enough information and knowledge regarding reproductive health care and family planning which leads to unfortunate and miserable choices. The use of contraceptives and family planning methods are also alarmingly low among poor couples due to the lack of information and access resulting in an increase in unwanted pregnancies and other negative health and life implications. Thus, having the RH law is extremely beneficial for it aids the poor in breaking free from the state of poverty by providing them with options for managing their sexual lives through the use of contraceptives, planning their families, exercising control over their procreative activities, and recognizes a woman's right to reproductive healthcare. Generally, the RH law enhances health promotion, improves the wellbeing of families and communities, increase economic gains, and reduces the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases. It also aims at empowering Filipinos, particularly women and young people, through informed decision and appropriate education. Furthermore, by ensuring steady and reliable programs, everyone will have easy access to information, facilities, and services concerning reproductive health.
