Course Description

This course is the second part of the three-part research course in your Doctor of Dental Medicine Program.  Following the research concepts and principles you have learned in Dentistry 199 Research Methods, here in Dentistry 198 you will be able to apply what you learned with the development and defense of a full research proposal.

Writing a technically sound research proposal leads to an efficient implementation of the research until the dissemination of the research results and an ethically sound proposal leads to better protection and benefits for the participants of the study, research team and other stakeholders of the research.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, you, with your research group, should be able to:

  1. Develop a scientifically and ethically sound research proposal through collaborative work with the research team using the principles of research methods, biostatistics and research ethics;
  2. Present the developed research proposal to an Experts Panel (Technical Review);
  3. Obtain approval of the research proposal from the Experts Panel (Technical Review);
  4. Submit the finalized research proposal to UPM REB for ethical approval; and
  5. Submit the final plans for research implementation after UPM REB approval of research proposal.
